Evidence, Policy and Practice, the realities of COVID-19 and dentistry
BASCD members skilled in translating evidence into policy and practice have been responding to the coronavirus pandemic from both a generic and dental public health perspective. Working with partners they have been instrumental in the response and adapting to the “new normal”.
This webinar series entitled Evidence, Policy and Practice, the realities of COVID-19 and dentistry reflected on the past year, the barriers and opportunities and how we can use our new learning during such an unusual time to plan for the future. Our goals being to ensure that population oral health is not neglected – not only from a dental treatment perspective but also remembering disease prevention, oral health improvement and of course health protection.
Our eminent speakers have been at the coal face of the rapid appraisal of evidence related to COVID-19, contributing to and implementing national policy responding to the pandemic as well as the realities of dental service delivery.

Future Meetings
With regards to meetings going forwards it is looking more likely that the BASCD 2021 Spring meeting will be a virtual one. We hope that we can meet in person in the autumn of 2021. Watch this space for more information!
Spring 2020 Conference Update
The organising committee met on Friday the 13th March 2020 and decided to postpone the April 2020 meeting.
Whilst disappointing the resolution of the coronavirus pandemic is crucial. We need to support population health and our colleagues, including BASCD members, working in Public Health across the UK and beyond.
We intend to reschedule our Cardiff meeting on Addressing Inequalities and Celebrating Improvement to Spring 2021 – where there will be a warm welcome to you all.
