The in-person BASCD Summer Scientific Meeting held in Glasgow on 9–10 June 2022 went smoothly with some good speakers and responsive participants. The theme was ‘Build Back Better: Inclusion, Integration and Innovation’.
Several self-motivated attendees took the initiative to prepare a short report on the event for publication. One of them was Emma Copley, a dental student from the University of Dundee who submitted a conference report to the British Dental Journal.
Emma said: “Overall, the conference was very educational and thought-provoking, and a great opportunity to connect and network with a variety of passionate dental and public health professionals.” |
Details of her report can be found here.
The second attendee who wrote her feedback to the Scottish Dental magazine was Fiona Andrews, a Forth Valley General Dental Practitioner and QMUL Dental Public Health Leadership and Policy MSc student. She provided photographs as well as running commentary on several keynote speakers of the Build Back Better theme.
Fiona said: “BASCD is keen to encourage researchers in the field of population oral health. To support this, BASCD offers poster prizes which are the Roger Anderson Poster Prize and Oral Health Promotion Poster Prize which were awarded at this event. Congratulations to the deserved winners.” |
Her article Build back better is available here.
The third person who wrote about her experience was one of the speakers, Jo Dawson, a dental nurse and oral health campaigner. Her story was about her recent speaking engagements on her project called Raisin Awareness, including a spot on the second day of the BASCD conference. Despite her nerves, she delivered her slides and a video smoothly, and received some positive comments afterwards.
Her story Public speaking: a perfect storm for imposter syndrome can be found here.
