To mark BASCD’s remarkable journey of 50 years as a professional society two articles have been published in the British Dental Journal and Community Dental Health.
Past President Stanley Gelbier (1987/88) in his article entitled “The British Association for the Study of Community Dentistry, its journal, Community Dental Health, and the origins of dental public health: a 50-year celebration” examines the founding and development of BASCD, and its achievements over 50 years including its major role in national and other epidemiological surveys, establishment of NHS dental public health specialist and consultant posts, and its journal, Community Dental Health. Alan French who has been a member of BASCD since the society was founded and was president in 1992/93 reflects on his roles as a member of the Council, and offers his personal insights on a range of activities of the Association. The link to the article can be accessed here.
